All hail Aunt Gladys!
Weapons star Amy Madigan took home the Best Supporting Actress award last night at the 98th Academy Awards.
With the win, Madigan set a new record for the longest gap between a first nomination and a first Oscar victory for an actress. The previous record was held by Geraldine Page, who won for The Trip to Bountiful at the 1986 Oscars—32 years after her first nomination for Hondo.
“This is great,” said Madigan after accepting the award. “Everybody’s asking me in the press “Well it’s been 40 years, what’s different about this time?” What’s different is I got this little gold guy!”
Her acceptance speech can be seen below.
Directed by Zach Cregger, Weapons was released on August 8, 2025, and starred Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, and Toby Huss. The film earned $270 million at the box office against a budget of $38 million.
