Every team needs a good guy.

Just yesterday, fans learned that Kaitlyn Dever has joined the cast of The Last of Us Season 2 as Abby, and now another major role has been filled, according to a report on Deadline.

Young Mazino (Beef) will join Dever–and stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey–in the show’s second season that’s expected to start shooting next month for an HBO debut sometime in 2025.

Mazino will portray Jesse, described as “a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own–sometimes at a terrible cost.” In 2020’s The Last of Us Part II video game–the inspiration for Season 2–the character of Jesse is voiced by Stephen Chang.

The upcoming season–led by showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann–continues the saga begun in the nine-episode first season set in a post-apocalyptic world where the Cordyceps fungus has transformed people into zombie-like creatures.

In this horrifying world, Joel (Pascal) is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie (Ramsey) out of a quarantine zone–while being pursued by more nightmares than they can count.
