Sam Keith Passes Away at Age 63

by Thomas Tuna

We have terrible news to pass along today as comic creator Sam Keith has passed away at the age of 63 due to complications from Lewy body dementia, according to a report on Variety.

Keith was best known for his work on The Maxx, the cult-favorite comic he created, wrote, and illustrated for Image Comics in the 1990s. The comic would be adapted to a 13-episode animated series on MTV that originally aired from April – June 1995.

Working with Neil Gaiman, Kieth co-created The Sandman and illustrated the series’ first five issues for DC Comics.

In 2010, Kieth wrote and illustrated the original hardcover graphic novel Arkham Asylum: Madness, which spent two weeks on The New York Times Best Seller list and climbed to No. 5 in the “Hardcover Graphic Books” category.

In addition, Keith also worked on other genre titles including the werewolf comic Scratch from DC Comics, Oji, 30 Days of Night, Death Rattle, Blood of Dracula, Mars Attacks, and Hellraiser.

The team at Horror News Network send our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Mr. Keith
