The Black Phone premiered at Fantastic Fest on June 24, 2022, and had its US release on June 24, 2022. The film earned $161.4 million at the box office against a budget of $18 million. Directed by Scott Derrickson, the film starred Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, James Ransone and Ethan Hawke.

The official synopsis of the first film reads “Finney Shaw is a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who’s being held in a soundproof basement by a sadistic, masked killer. When a disconnected phone on the wall starts to ring, he soon discovers that he can hear the voices of the murderer’s previous victims — and they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.”

Universal will release the film in theaters on October 17, 2025. Keep it locked to Horror News Network for more on The Black Phone 2.
