Returning to familiar ground.
The Conjuring 4–the next and final mainline installment in the classic horror franchise that began back in 2013–is expected to start shooting this summer, and this week a familiar director signed on for the project.
Michael Chaves–who has an impressive pedigree with The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Nun II–will helm the New Line Cinema film, working with screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It also was confirmed that this movie–no longer subtitled Last Rites–will be the final mainline entry in the franchise. Plot details have yet to be revealed, but legacy stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are expected to reprise their roles, and James Wan and Peter Safran will again serve as producers.
The original The Conjuring–directed by Wan from a screenplay by Chad and Carey Hayes–was the launching pad for the franchise that has earned more than $2 billion worldwide so far.
