Better late than never.
The next sequel to the 2002 horror classic 28 Days Later was picked up this week by Sony, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The upcoming 28 Years Later will see original director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland team up again for this film. In addition, a Part 2 feature that will be written by Garland is being planned. Boyle will not helm this movie.
Cillian Murphy–who starred in the original flick–will serve as executive producer for 28 Years Later, and may join the new cast. But details on casting and production have not yet been announced.
The original 28 Days Later–from Boyle and Garland–stars Murphy as a bicycle courier who awakens from a coma to find out that a contagious, aggression-inducing virus has caused chaos. The film–that earned $83 million worldwide on an $8-million budget–spawned one sequel–28 Weeks Later–a graphic novel and a comic book series.
