The monster is coming closer to the first signs of life.
Frankenstein–a new take on the Mary Shelly classic from Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro–is headed to Netflix, and several new cast members recently signed on, according to a report on Deadline.
The feature–expected to start shooting next month–has added Jacob Elordi (Saltburn), who replaces Andrew Garfield as the monster; Felix Kammerer (All Quiet on the Western Front); Lars Mikkelsen (The Witcher); David Bradley (Pinocchio); and Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth).
As previously reported, Oscar Isaac will play Dr. Victor Frankenstein, Mia Goth will portray The Bride and Christoph Waltz may play a character called Dr. Pretorius.
The new film–written, directed and produced by del Toro (alongside co-writer J. Miles Dale)–reportedly will be set in 19th-Century eastern Europe and will follow Dr. Pretorius–“who is tracking down Dr. Frankenstein’s monster, who is believed to have died in a fire 40 years ago.”
The feature–which doesn’t yet have a release date on Netflix–has been a long-gestating project for del Toro. “I’ve been wanting to do this for 50 years,” he said, “ever since I saw the first Frankenstein. This is a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools.”
