The 2023 Horror Comic Awards are finally here and we’re happy to present the first award of the year, Cover of the Year, to artist Megan Hutchison-Cates for The Approach #4B.
Published by BOOM! Studios, The Approach tells the story of a missing plane that mysteriously reappears after two decades and brings with it a sinister storm that’s much more than it seems.
Written by Jeremy Haun (Red Mother) and Jason A. Hurley (The Beauty), the story has great pacing and builds tension as the protagonists try to figure out what’s happening and how to survive. As for the monster, well without giving too much away, it’s as frightening as they come.
Jesus Hervas (The Empty Man) provides the artwork that adds a great deal of both quality and terror within the pages. There are plenty of blood, guts and scenes to make every horror fan happy. Think of it as a mix of John Carpenter’s The Thing with a dash of Alien.
Congratulations to Megan Hutchison-Cates for making a scary series even scarier.
